What Difference Does It Make?
Do you ever wonder how Meals 'til Monday impacts the children? We invite you to read the feedback below from faculty members of our partner schools. Out of respect for the children, we removed the names of teachers, schools, and other identifying information from some of the quotes.
"There is a special little girl that was so excited after the first week, that when I was giving her the meals for the second time, asked me "We get it again?" When I told her she would be getting it every Friday, her face lit up. She responded "This will really help my mom. I share mine with my baby brother". She melted my heart...Last weekend as I was running/walking the in the 5K, I just kept picturing her sweet little face and the smile she gives me every Friday. It kept me going and I was so thankful that I could be a part of this program!"
"I believe that the Meals 'til Monday program has made a difference in our students in multiple areas. I have had students tell me that they concentrate better in class (especially on Fridays) when they know that they do not have to worry about being hungry over the weekend. This takes a burden off of these children that should not be theirs to bear at such a young age and gives them the opportunity to just be students while they are at school. This program makes a difference in so many lives, and I know that these students depend on this food and look forward to seeing the different things that they get in their bags each week!"
"Meals 'til Monday excites students every time they receive the package. By having a full stomach and fueled brain, students become more successful and focused with learning throughout the day."
"Both years that we have done MTM, I have had students who desperately need it. I have forgotten to pick up the meals or have put food in the wrong locker, and the students are quick to ask about their meals."
"I have most definitely seen an impact on my ... students who receive MTM weekly. I firmly believe that they are able to focus better and complete higher quality school work on a full stomach. Before MTM, my students were inattentive and distant because their need for nourishment was not met! Thanks to MTM, my students can follow and fulfill their academic goals."
" ... kids ask for the meals and they get excited about the meals."
"One student came to me and said, "... I wish the food would come every day." Another student expressed about how much it means to her to get the food - and can't believe she gets it. Two other of my students are very humble, and I know they appreciate the extra food for weekends. I don't know if performance has improved, but the relationships are closer - kids know we care. I am so thankful we can impact kids' lives in a positive way at their homes, and do something to stop hunger."
"She is always happy to receive them and not at all embarrassed."
"My two guys are eager for Fridays and are always glad to know they will have a heavy book bag that day. We don't really talk about it in front of the class, because I try to keep everything confidential."
"I have students who receive meals that were kids who said a lot of times that they were hungry. These same students do not complain about stomach aches like they used to. Students who are not going hungry are performing better in classwork."
" ... the children do look for it, rely on it, and are thankful for the food."
"With the awareness of hunger in America growing, MTM has been such a blessing! Each student I've had in the program looks forward to Friday afternoons when they receive their bag of meals. I am very thankful, and I know the students are, as well, for Meals 'til Monday!"
